How to Reset Tire Pressure Light

Tire Pressure Warning Light_216248072

If you’re dealing with a flashing tire pressure light after you have inflated your tires, you might have to reset it. Your tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) is critical to your vehicle’s safety. But how do you reset your tire pressure light? When you have problems with your TPMS light being on, follow these steps or bring your car to the service centre at Mercedes-Benz Regina near Saskatoon.

Resetting Your Tire Pressure Light

Once your tires are inflated, your flashing tire pressure light should go off eventually. If your TPMS light remains on, there are several actions you can take:

  • Drive at or above 81 km to reset your sensor for 10 minutes. This will cause your sensor to reset the next time you turn on your car.
  • When your car is off, turn the key to the “On” position, but don’t start it completely. Hold the TPMS reset button until the tire pressure light blinks three times, then release it. Start your vehicle and wait 20 minutes for the sensor to refresh. The tire pressure monitor reset button is located beneath the steering wheel. If you are unable to find it, check the user’s manual.
  • Inflate all tires to three PSI over their recommended amount, then deflate them completely. Be sure to include the spare tire, as it might have a sensor too. Once they’re all deflated, inflate to the recommended tire pressure.
  • With the vehicle off, disconnect the positive battery cable with a wrench. Turn the car on and honk the horn for about three seconds. This will discharge any power that’s still stored in the vehicle. Then reconnect the battery.

What Does a Flashing Tire Pressure Light Mean?

Most tire pressure sensors use a battery and a flashing tire pressure light can often be a warning sign that the battery needs replacing. It could also indicate a problem with one of your sensors. Either way, it’s best to contact our service centre near Winnipeg.
